Welcome to the Magnolia blog
Practical guides, setup walkthroughs, and growth strategies for trade businesses on ServiceM8 — written by a Certified Partner who works with these tools every day.
This is the start of the Magnolia Innovative Solutions resource library. Going forward, we’ll be publishing practical, opinionated content on getting the most out of ServiceM8 — written from the perspective of a Certified Partner who actually configures these accounts every day.
What you’ll find here
The plan is to cover four broad topic areas, with a new article roughly every week:
Setup & onboarding guides
Step-by-step walkthroughs of getting ServiceM8 configured for specific trades — plumbing, electrical, HVAC, cleaning, landscaping, pest control, gas fitting, construction. Service catalogue, custom forms, accounting integration, dispatch rules, team training. The kind of thing we walk every new client through, written down so you can DIY or know what to ask for.
Trade-specific workflows
How real businesses run on ServiceM8 day to day. Quoting on-site, dispatching the right tech to the right job, capturing compliance forms, invoicing before you leave the driveway, batch-invoicing recurring contracts at month-end. With concrete examples — actual workflows that work, not generic "ServiceM8 lets you" marketing speak.
Integration deep-dives
How to connect ServiceM8 to the tools you already run — Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, inventory systems, CRMs, payment gateways, custom internal software. We build a lot of these, so the articles cover the trade-offs and gotchas we’ve learned the hard way.
Growth & strategy
Pricing strategy, KPI dashboards, capacity planning, hiring, when to move from solo to crew, when to add a second branch. Less about the software, more about the business. ServiceM8 collects a lot of data that most operators never look at; these articles cover what to look at and how to act on it.
Honest framing
A few things we won’t do here:
We won’t tell you ServiceM8 is the right answer for every business. It isn’t. For very large commercial contractors with complex multi-month project work, simPRO or AroFlo are usually better. For high-revenue North American home services contractors who need a call centre, ServiceTitan is the right tool. We’ve been clear about this on our comparison pages, and we’ll be clear about it here.
We’re also not going to write hype pieces. ServiceM8 has limitations and trade-offs like every platform. Where it does, we’ll say so — because pretending otherwise wastes your time and undermines our credibility.
If you’d rather just get started
If you’re already considering ServiceM8 and you’d like setup and training done for you, you can start a free trial through us and we’ll handle onboarding. ServiceM8’s setup & training rebate credits up to $2,000 of your Partner spend back to your ServiceM8 account, which usually covers our full onboarding service for small operations.
If you want to read first, the pricing page is a good next stop — it explains how ServiceM8 actually costs out for crews of different sizes, and how the rebate works.
